Bravo St Augustine's Community Nursing Unit and Cuan Chaitriona Nursing Home!
We would like to highlight two nursing homes who have been working hard to implement the Caru Review Process in their nursing homes this year…
Cuan Chaitriona Nursing Home, Castlebar
Cuan Chaitriona Nursing Home, Castlebar: The Caru Team made of Triona, Noranna, Kerrie, Amie and Danilo have implemented several new initiatives since they completed their Caru Quality Improvement Workshops in June. The nursing home now has a Caru Information Stand, a memory table for deceased residents, a Caru Vision Statement that is framed and on display, a Support Box for families who are visiting after-hours when a resident is at end of life (containing snacks, local menus, taxi phone numbers, spare phone chargers and other essentials), and have even invited a resident, Marion, who is a keen knitter to help knit keepsakes for families. Cuan Chaitriona also presented their work at the recent Caru Regional Network Event in Castlebar.
St Augustine's Community Nursing Unit, Ballina
St Augustine’s Community Nursing Unit, Ballina: Louise, Alice and Eimear have been working hard to promote Caru in their nursing home. They have designed their own Caru posters to promote their roles as Caru Leads. The group have also created personalised condolence cards that are sent to family/friends of residents, which include handwritten ‘resident memories’ from staff and residents. Additionally, one of the Caru Leads presented at a recent Resident’s Meeting to discuss the importance of Advance Care Planning and offered to support the completion of Irish Hospice Foundation’s Think Ahead documents to record personal wishes for end of life. We were pleased St Augustine’s joined the recent Caru Regional Network Event to share their progress with other local nursing homes.
