Bereavement Workshop with Irish Hospice Foundation
Description
It is estimated Prolonged/Complicated Grief effects up to 10% of bereaved people. It is characterised by serious impairment in functioning and an inability to engage satisfactorily with everyday life. It does not respond well to traditional therapy methods and new protocols are being developed to treat it. This workshop is primarily aimed at therapists who provide counselling services to bereaved clients (e.g. Psychotherapists, Counsellors or Counselling Psychologists).

Learning Outcomes
On completion of the workshop participants will:
- describe different grief trajectories
- understand why grief becomes stuck
- identify some strategies to facilitate grief integration
Presenter Profile
Catherine Tierney is an accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist (MIACP) with a special interest in bereavement and loss. She trained in Complicated Grief Therapy in 2021 through the Centre for Complicated Grief in the USA. She is a Clinical Coordinator in the Irish Hospice Foundation and manages the freephone nationwide Bereavement Support Line. She also delivers IHF clinical training on grief & loss. She has almost 20 years’ experience in clinical practice.
