“Learning from other services and networking with both new and familiar colleagues. It was a super enlightening day.”

The CHO1 Regional Network was held in the Cavan Crystal Hotel on 21st November 2023.

Surrounded by beautiful Christmas décor, the attendees heard from speakers such as Amanda Ringrose, who had a very interactive session with the group about communication at end of life. We also had Jennifer Richardson, Clinical Nurse Specialist from the Meitheal Programme, who turned the spotlight on the levels of palliative care and when it was appropriate to involve the specialist palliative services. Our Regional Lead for CHO1, Clodagh McGuinness, then spoke about the importance of advance care planning in our nursing homes.

A panel discussion with Q&A was then facilitated by CHO8 Regional Lead Sharon O’Brien. The panel consisted of the three morning speakers, Amanda, Jennifer and Clodagh. There was great conversation about all three presentations, and many aspects of working in older person services were debated and discussed.

The afternoon session kicked off with Pam Buchanan from LGBT Ireland who gave a fabulous presentation on LGBT: Compassion in Care. This created much debate and conversation among the attendees and gave a real insight into the issues the LGBT+ community face in older age.

The event concluded with Kim Doherty, Developmentan image of Kim Doherty from Mental Health Ireland and caru regional lead clodagh mcguinness Officer – Cavan Monaghan, with Mental Health Ireland, who presented the 5 ways of self-caring.  This was another really interactive session which got great feedback in the evaluations of the event.

Clodagh would like to thank all her speakers for presenting at the event and a big thank you to those who attended and really interacted with the event to make it a successful day.

The programme line-up was fabulous - the speakers and content were excellent - a great opportunity to Network.
