Over 100 participants attend the Caru Regional Network Event in Dublin!
There is so much I loved about this Caru regional network, the speakers were so different and interesting, and I feel so energized thank you.
Caru regional leads, Mary Ferns, Ann Marie Murphy, and Alison McMahon from CHO 6, 7, and 9 respectively, held a highly successful Caru Networking Event in the Gresham Hotel on the 14th of November 2023.
There were 105 nursing home staff from across the public, private and community sector in attendance.
The day began with an overview of the Caru Programme by Alison McMahon. This explored Caru from its origins, to where it is now and our aspirations for the future. It was followed by presentations by Ann Marie Murphy on the Levels of Palliative Care and Advance Care Planning in the nursing home setting. The morning session was then completed by Kathleen Quinlan from St Francis Hospice, Raheny, who presented on Communication in Palliative, End-of-Life, and Bereavement care.
Panel discussion with Q&A was then facilitated by Mary Ferns. The panel was Ann Marie and Kathleen, and Val Ryan, Curragh Lawn Nursing Home Owner, joined them. Many aspects of working in Older Persons Service were explored and great discussion was generated. One outstanding conclusion from this was that the attendees realized they were all experiencing the same issues, furthering a sense of solidarity.
The afternoon session began with a presentation by LGBT Champions Manager James O’Hagan who gave a very comprehensive overview of the history and challenges for the LGBT+ Community and their integration into Older Persons Services in Ireland.
Ann Martin, Chaplin Our Lady’s Hospice Harolds Cross led a very thought-provoking session on self-care. Sing Ireland ended the Network event with singing and dancing sending us all home smiling.
I am so happy I came for this class today. I enjoyed everything that I was thought.
Alison, Mary and Ann Marie would like to thank all the speakers who supported the event and all the attendees.
There was a great energy in the room throughout the day with new connections and friendships made.
