Caru Advance Care Planning Training
CHO 7
Across the CHO 7 area, a one hour ACP training session online continues to be delivered to multiple nursing homes, engaging a wide mix of disciplines including nursing, healthcare assistants, activity coordinators, and management. While early engagement in each session tended to be quiet reflecting both the sensitivity of ACP and the diverse experiences of staff momentum built quickly once the case study was introduced.
The case study acted as a turning point. Staff recognised their own roles within the scenario and began to identify how each discipline contributes to residents’ wishes being understood, respected, and acted upon. This shift in energy created meaningful discussion, highlighting the importance of ACP as a core element of resident advocacy.
Feedback across sites consistently reflected that ACP becomes more accessible when staff can see themselves in the narrative understanding not only what ACP is, but why their role matters. This shared recognition is helping to build a more compassionate, coordinated approach to supporting residents’ needs and wishes throughout the CHO 7 area.
