Caru Workshops Recommence with Strong Engagement
In August, the Quality Improvement Workshops in CHO5 returned with plenty of coffee to fuel the conversations! Regional Lead, Janet Tobin-Martin welcomed 60 nursing home staff from 18 nursing homes across the Carlow/Kilkenny and Waterford/Wexford regions.
Eight nursing homes comprising of 30 staff completed the four QI Workshops in recent weeks in Gorey Care Centre, with the remainder scheduled to complete their four QI Workshops in early November in the Hoban Hotel, Kilkenny. Special thanks to both for providing such warm venues to gather, learn, and laugh.
The Workshops were filled with enthusiasm, meaningful conversations, and thoughtful reflections. Most importantly, they reminded us of the power of coming together – sharing experiences, sparking ideas, and supporting one another in the ongoing journey to improve care quality.
Here’s to many more sessions where learning feels less like “work” and more like teamwork with purpose (and maybe the odd biscuit or two along the way!).
The strong participation and engagement demonstrates the commitment of nursing home staff to continuous improvement, and the Workshops provided an encouraging platform for learning, collaboration, and growth.

In CHO8, over the summer and into autumn, six in-house Caru Workshop rounds were delivered, training 115 staff across 14 new nursing homes, and included 11 returning nursing homes expanding their Caru Groups.
Special mention to Esker Ri Nursing Home, who released the largest single group to Caru training since the programme began!
From Louth to Offaly, Meath, and Westmeath, Workshops were filled with a celebratory spirit — cakes, balloons, and fabulous post-workshop information boards capturing the energy and creativity of each home.
In CHO1, Workshops were completed for 6 nursing homes in Sligo/Leitrim and 2 in Donegal in the last few months.
There was great engagement from all involved and all Caru Groups are up, and running, having had many events held in their nursing homes in the last number of weeks to promote the programme and improve palliative, end-of-life, and bereavement care in their organisations.
